The Odds of Liverpool Winning the Upcoming Premier League Season
… are pretty good, according to many seasoned football professionals. After the Reds ended their dry spell last year, they finished third in the 2020-2021 season, and they are expected to do much better this year. While it may be a bit too early to whip out your first
Betway English Premier League soccer betting slip, there are already signs that indicate Liverpool doing great in the upcoming season.
The fans are back
One of the reasons why many consider Liverpool to be a worthy contender for the Premier League title in the upcoming season is that their supporters will be back on the grandstands. Eurosport journalist Ben Snowball has
pointed out that there is something about the fans cheering for the Reds at Anfield that gives the team wings - but this is something they didn’t have the chance to really enjoy in the last year and a half.
Last year, Liverpool was now allowed to celebrate its EPL title the way it should’ve because of the pandemic-related restrictions. And by the time the fans were allowed back into the stadiums, the season was pretty much over. But Jurgen Klopp is determined to give the fans something to celebrate in the upcoming season.
Van Dijk is back, Konaté joins in
Dutch centre-back Virgil van Dijk finally returns to the turf this season after spending the better part of last season sidelined by an ACL injury to his right knee that needed surgery. He returned to the turf in a friendly against Hertha in late July, followed by his new contract that will keep him at Anfield for another four years, announced mid-August.
Van Dijk will join new signing Ibrahima Konaté who was lured over to Anfield from Leipzig this summer. The Reds paid his £36 million release clause to the German team, so - if all the paperwork will be done in time - the Frenchman will debut this season in the Premier League.
Konaté has been repeatedly compared to van Dijk due to his pace, strength, talent in tackling and positional play. Now, the two players will have a chance to work together to defend Liverpool’s goal in a way only they can.
Strong competitors
But the competition for the upcoming Premier League season’s title will be strong. Liverpool will indeed have a shot at the title - but the Reds will have to face equally strong opposition.
One of the other teams considered to have a good chance to win the 2021-2022 EPL season is Chelsea. The team had some unfortunate shortcomings in its attack last year, so they finished fourth - but this year, their spear has a new tip: Romelu Lukaku. Manchester United is expected to fall short next season, missing a leading defensive midfielder, while defending champion Manchester City is expected to fall short - unless, of course, they can lure Kane over from the Spurs.
