Liverpool supporters are split on whether or not they want Arne Slot to carry on as head coach next season. The Dutchman is coming under pressure after leading the Reds to a disappointing season, with a slow and uninspiring style of football turning many fans off. However, despite some patchy performances, Liverpool are still well-placed to secure Champions League football and could even still win a trophy. Slot retains backing from owners FSG, and according to the man himself, the potential within the Liverpool squad means that things will only get better.

Slot and Richard Hughes decided to break up a winning team, and according to the head coach, that was with the aim of building another.“There’s a lot of potential, I think the players we’ve signed are mainly young players, that’s the model of the club,” the 47-year-old told Sky Sports before Liverpool’s game against Tottenham on Sunday.“Even players signed two or three years ago, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, these players are not 18 or 19 anymore but they have the best years in their careers still to come and that’s also for the players we’ve signed and these signings have adjusted more and more to the Premier League, to the Champions League, to living abroad for the first time in their lives.”Photo by Ben Roberts – Danehouse/Getty ImagesREAD MORE: Milos Kerkez ‘starting to understand’ what it really means to play for Liverpool“We’ve won quite a lot of games recently, so that tells you the improvement of the team and the individuals and I’m 100 per cent sure that the best is yet to come because there’s individual progress to be made and is already happening and the longer they play together, it’s been shown all over the world that successful teams usually play long together and that’s what we’re trying to achieve with these players as well.”Slot also pointed to the fact that Liverpool are already starting to show improvements as the squad become more used to each other.

But Liverpool appear willing to give him time, so if they can get it right in the market and push on next season, the players ultimately prove him right and save his job.
