Florian Wirtz will become one of the most expensive players of all time when his move to Liverpool is finalized.
The Reds have agreed to pay Bayer Leverkusen a guaranteed £100 million ($135 million) plus a further £16 million ($22 million) in possible add-ons.
Even without factoring those possible add-ons in, Wirtz is set to become the 10th most expensive player of all time, and the second most expensive to join a Premier League club from overseas.
Top spot in that regard still goes to Enzo Fernandez, who joined Chelsea for £107 million ($145 million) two years ago, but Wirtz will surpass him if all of his add-on clauses are met.

Neymar remains by far the most expensive player of all time after his £200 million ($271 million) transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, while Kylian Mbappe's £166 million ($225 million) move from Monaco to PSG puts him in second place.
Joao Felix (£113 million/$153 million) and Antoine Griezmann (£107 million/$145 million) — with their 2019 moves to Atletico Madrid and Barcelona respectively — round out the top five with Fernandez.
The transfers between sixth and 10th in the list all involve English clubs, with Philippe Coutinho's £105 million ($142 million) move from Liverpool to Barcelona in 2018 coming in as the joint sixth most expensive transfer of all time
Declan Rice also moved for a £105 million ($142 million) fee, joining Arsenal from West Ham in 2023.
Wirtz joins Jack Grealish and Moises Caicedo in moving for a guaranteed £100 million ($135 million)
Grealish joined Manchester City in 2021, while Caicedo moved to Chelsea in 2023.
Liverpool staved off competition from the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to land Wirtz, with the Reds believing that Wirtz's decision to move to Anfield demonstrates his belief in what Arne Slot is building on Merseyside.
Liverpool has gained plaudits for its shrewd signings in the transfer market over the last decade or so, and while there will be a tendency from some to think that signing a player for a possible $157 million represents a departure from a tried-and-tested strategy, that is not believed to be the case.
While the fee is eye-watering, Liverpool views Wirtz as a long-term investment in the same way that the club viewed Alisson and Virgil van Dijk when it spent huge sums on those two players in 2018.
Alisson and Van Dijk have been crucial during a fruitful period for Liverpool, and the club is hopeful that Wirtz will have a similar impact to those two club legends.
Liverpool's lack of activity during the 2024 summer and 2025 winter transfer windows gave the club the wiggle room to be able to spend big on Wirtz.
