Liverpool haven’t been heavily linked with signing a new midfielder this summer, but they’ve now been told to consider making a move for former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay. Between his connection to Manchester United, where he spent 22 years from his time at their academy to the senior team, and his age, Liverpool will likely not even consider him.

Yet, former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has suggested that Liverpool should consider making a move to sign McTominay, who he has compared to Steven Gerrard. Meulensteen said: “McTominay has Gerrard-esque qualities and would suit Liverpool, he’s one of those midfielders that can get you goals, now how many of those midfielders are around today?

I’ve been very impressed with him since he left United because that could have easily been the start of his career fizzling out. But with Scott it’s the total opposite, he has bloomed and come to life.” Liverpool need a defensive midfielder not another No.8 Even if there was some realm where Liverpool would sign a 29-year-old former Manchester United midfielder, McTominay just isn’t what the Reds need.
