Xherdan Shaqiri will be hoping to receive more game time next season even if it’s from the bench as the Swiss international has been left out a lot this year.

Signed for just £13million after Liverpool activated his relegation exit clause in his Stoke City contract, Shaqiri has been excellent if not a little underused this season.

His Algerian counterpart has been involved in 22 goals in almost 1800 minutes while Shaqiri has been directly involved in 17 goals in just over 1300 minutes.

For Liverpool, Shaqiri is the perfect squad option as he guarantees a higher goal involvement (goal or assist every 76 minutes) than Mahrez (82 g/a per min) and cost significantly less.

The 27-year-old joined the Reds around the same time that Riyad Mahrez signed for Manchester City for a £60million club record and has enjoyed an individually similar season.

As Shaqiri proved against Barcelona last week, he is more than capable of hurting the best teams in the world which will come as encouragement for Klopp in case one of Salah or Mane get injured.

The former Bayern Munich winger will be hoping to play closer to 2000 minutes next season and if the Reds perform better in the domestic cups he will.
