Nottingham Forest’s 2-2 draw away at Real Betis in the Europa League may have spelt the end for one big name.

Postecoglou also faced a nightmare trip to Arsenal as his opening fixture as Forest boss, with the East Midlands club picking up just a draw from the Australian’s first three games.

Many were sceptical about how Postecoglou’s style would translate to Nottingham Forest, and one player whose place was at risk was Chris Wood.

Postecoglou has favoured Forest’s summer signing Igor Jesus, who joined the club from Botafogo in the transfer window.

Wood, who joined Forest for £15 million from Newcastle United, has scored 37 Premier League goals since moving to the City Ground.

The New Zealand international has started Forest’s two Premier League games under Postecoglou so far, with Jesus being favoured in the midweek fixtures.

Wood has struggled to translate last season’s form to this campaign, scoring just twice in Forest’s first five league games, with both goals coming in the first half on the opening weekend of the season against Brentford.

As Wood’s scoreless streak now reaches nine halves of Premier League football, and Jesus continues his red-hot form after his brace in the Europa League against Real Betis, the end may be nigh for Forest’s 2024-25 talisman.
