Former players now turned assistants There is also no shortage of former players in the world of coaching, offering their experience and stepping into the world of management at club and international level. Former youth product Tom Clayton is currently acting as Liverpool’s U16s assistant coach, and Jay Spearing is a player-coach for the Reds’ U21s at the age of 36.
