Liverpool has five games remaining this season, with Arne Slot looking set to qualify for the Champions League, but with several questions needing to be answeredArne Slot during a Champions League press conference.(Image: Michael Regan - UEFA via Getty Images)As much thanks to Chelsea's collapse as anything that sustained from Liverpool — the Reds have won back-to-back fixtures, but suddenly look in a very different place — Arne Slot's side is well-set in the race for the Champions League spots. While it looked only a couple of weeks ago like it might be touch-and-go in terms of making back into the UEFA competition that Liverpool wants to be involved in, it now looks to be on the verge of achieving its minimum aim.As a result, for the rest of the season, it will be important for Liverpool to build some momentum ahead of the new campaign kicking off, and there is likely to be a chance to begin to answer a few burning questions ahead of the summer too.READ MORE: Juventus chief denies Mohamed Salah transfer claim as Liverpool star decides next moveREAD MORE: How many points Liverpool needs to qualify for Champions League after Chelsea lossHow will Liverpool get the most out of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz?Next season, regardless of who signs during the summer and how long Hugo Ekitike will be out for, the key determinant for how much Liverpool can improve will be Alexander Isak.Signed for a fee of around $169 million (£125 million) last summer, Isak is yet to get going in a Liverpool jersey, but we know how good he can be. He showed that often enough for Newcastle, and he won't need time to get used to the Premier League.Arriving without match sharpness, Isak should be able to hit the ground running next time around, following the final few matches of this season and then a full summer.Finding a relationship between Isak and Florian Wirtz — the other mega-money addition in attack — will completely change the dynamic in the Liverpool attack.
Its potential is mouthwatering; now, the Reds need to find the formula to realize that.Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz have shown flashes of their talent for Liverpool(Image: 2025 DeFodi Images)What is the plan with Rio Ngumoha? It is pretty much inevitable that Liverpool will sign at least one winger this summer. Scoring that volume of goals will be almost impossible, which is why Isak and Wirtz came in.But Liverpool will need to decide what its wide forwards look like next term, with a significant upgrade on this season's version of Salah very much realistic.Rio Ngumoha celebrates after scoring the first goal during the Premier League match between Liverpool and Fulham.(Image: Steven Halliwell/MI News/NurPhoto via Getty Images)Seventeen-year-old Rio Ngumoha will also need to factor into the thinking.
How much more will he be able to play next season compared to this one?We might be able to glean something about the plan by how much he features in the next month or so, with there being only one game per week. But regardless, Liverpool needs an injection of fresh quality in attack this summer, with links to Yan Diomande making lots of sense.Federico Chiesa hasn't made much of an impact and Cody Gakpo will need to step up next term, but Ngumoha could play a part as well. And with Alexis Mac Allister having had a season where he has struggled, the Reds' number eight could be a strong contender there. There is no doubt that his performances this season have been very good — on Thursday, he was confirmed as having won Liverpool's Player of the Month award for the fifth time in 2025/26 — and there is even more to come. With Gravenberch and Szoboszlai behind Wirtz, Isak and some more pace out wide, the Liverpool team could suddenly look very different.
