Jarell Quansah is set to leave Liverpool FC for Bayer Leverkusen this month in a deal worth up to £35 million, with reports confirming a buy-back clause has been inserted.

The 21-year-old defender, who is currently on England U21 duty at the European Championships, will undergo a medical following the semi-final clash against the Netherlands on Wednesday.

The transfer will see Leverkusen pay an initial £30 million, with an additional £5 million in performance-related add-ons.

While some German sources suggest a slightly lower base fee of around €30 million (£25.7m), Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) maintains the overall agreement amounts to £35 million.

Notably, BILD journalist Phillip Arens reports that Liverpool have secured a €60 million (£51.4m) buy-back clause—giving the Reds the option to re-sign their academy graduate for £15 million more than the total outlay from Leverkusen.

Quansah’s potential has long been admired at Anfield, and this move does not close the door on a future return.

Speaking to journalists, including The Times’ Henry Winter, Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton said:

“I’m the biggest fan of Jarell.

I’ve known him since I was four… he’s seriously ready now.

He’s not always been the biggest lad so he had to use his brain when he was younger and now he’s grown into his stature… He’s clever, he knows when to step in, when to play the normal pass…

I love a defender who speaks behind me and Jarell tells me what to do.”

As Quansah prepares for his move to Bundesliga runners-up Leverkusen, Liverpool are already lining up replacements, with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez scheduled for a medical on Merseyside this week.
