£38m Bayern Munich player may have just given Liverpool fans some very good news in the transfer market - opinion

The Reds truly had a summer to remember in terms of their activity in the transfer market, with the club spending a record-breaking amount of money.

They have strengthened their squad significantly and built somewhat of a super team, a dangerous thought for rival teams as Liverpool sit top of the league without even clicking into gear just yet.

But, despite having a good start to the season, the Reds’ hierarchy already have one eye on the next transfer window as it could have huge implications for the futures of some of their current stars and transfer targets.

However, they may have already been handed a transfer boost ahead of January, with it all coming from one man: Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano.

The transfer window may be a long way away right now, but based on Liverpool’s situation, they need to start at least thinking about it.

Not only might they need a few reinforcements to get them over the line and retain their title, but the future of some of their stars is very much up in the air, none more so than centre-back Ibrahima Konate.

The Frenchman’s contract expires in the summer, and with Real Madrid circling, they can start negotiating with him in January to prise him away from Anfield.

Liverpool, of course, want to keep him, but after rejecting multiple new contract offers, his fate looks all but sealed.

Or at least it did.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Bayern Munich centre-back Dayot Upamecano has informed his agent of his desire to join Real Madrid, with his contract also up in the summer of 2026.

They report that Madrid wanted him before his move to Munich, and they remain interested in him now, suggesting a move could materialise.

If it does, this means a move for Konate could be off the cards, with the Frenchman likely to stay at Liverpool if he cannot get his dream move.

Of course, there is a world where Madrid get both, and it would be no surprise either, but this is certainly at least a glimmer of hope for Reds fans.

There are many reasons why the Reds will be praying that ‘Ibou’ signs a new contract, but the main one is because he is simply one of the world’s best.

After a shaky start to the season, Konate has settled down and shown his quality in the last few games, with his partnership with Virgil van Dijk one of the best in Europe.

Another reason is that Marc Guehi could make a U-turn and reject a move to Liverpool for a club elsewhere, indicating that they do not have a quality replacement lined up anymore in case ‘Ibou’ does go.

A lot is riding on the next contract Liverpool offer him, but the priority for the Reds right now should be doing everything in their power to tie him down to a new long-term deal.
