A report in the Daily Mail claims Liverpool has seen a third bid knocked back for Wirtz, as Bayer Leverkusen holds out for a staggering £118 million ($160M).
That said, with Jeremie Frimpong’s €35M ($40M) transfer confirmed, and the Reds reportedly closing in on the £45M ($61M) signing of Milos Kerkez, that will certainly take up a large portion of the summer budget.
In fact, the Liverpool head coach could be willing to part with several players to secure new signings.
Spanish outlet AS states Liverpool is willing to sell the player for around €40M ($45M), which would represent a significant figure for the summer rebuild.
Tsimikas is expected to depart this summer if the Reds sign Kerkez, and the Greek left-back has been linked with a move to Leeds United.
That’s not forgetting the transfer fees Liverpool has already received for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher this summer, which equate to around $31M.
There are others who could depart, and this week has been dominated by talk of an exit for Luis Diaz, while Federico Chiesa has also been discussing his future.
Tyler Morton is expected to move on; Joe Gomez may also leave this summer, while Jarell Quansah and Wataru Endo have been linked with exits.
Even after the Wirtz deal is wrapped up, there are plenty more twists and turns to come.
