Liverpool’s new-look squad missed out on the first piece of silverware of the 2025/26 season - but it’s not just the Reds’ new signings that supporters will have had their eyes on at Wembley.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool plans to engage in talks for the Palace captain now that the Community Shield is out of the way.

Guehi has been linked with a move for Anfield for some time, and Wembley provided the perfect platform for a transfer audition.

Here’s what we spotted from Guehi during today’s game.

Seal of approval

Liverpool's admiration for Guehi is already well known by this point, but another glowing review certainly will not go amiss.

Former Palace captain Joel Ward was on hand to deliver just that, with Guehi's former teammate insisting he would be perfect for the Reds as he spoke to TNT Sports before the game.

“You look at the player makeups that Liverpool have, they need someone who’s mobile and agile, and Marc fits everything they would need, whether it’s now or further down the line,” Ward said.

It wasn't quite the Van Dijk-esque cross-field ball to Mohamed Salah that has become a trademark for the Liverpool captain, but it was an encouraging sign if the Reds are to make a move for Guehi that he will be comfortable with their style of play.

Fitness concerns

While Guehi was ultimately celebrating as he lifted his second piece of silverware at Wembley in just a matter of months, there will be more than a few people a little concerned with how he ended the game - his current manager included.

Guehi looked to be struggling in the final few minutes with cramp before he eventually had to be hauled off by Oliver Glasner, with Palace captain looking as though he was barely able to walk as he was replaced by Justin Devenny.

Whether it was just cramp or something more serious, we will have to wait to find out, but it will be a concern for Palace, and maybe Liverpool as well.
