Luis Diaz’s time at Liverpool is at an end, with the winger on the verge of bringing the curtain down on three-and-a-half years with the Reds.
After a year filled with speculation over his future, culminating in a summer which has seen first Barcelona and then Bayern Munich test Liverpool’s resolve, the winger will get his wish to move on from Merseyside.
The Reds are understood to have agreed an $87 million deal with Bayern, with Diaz having said his goodbyes to his Liverpool teammates before departing the tour of Asia in order to undergo his medical in Munich, which is set to take place later today.

Having signed Diaz for around $57M from Porto back in 2022, the Reds have managed to make a tidy profit on the Colombian, who played an important role in last season’s Premier League title win.
Now 28, and with Liverpool reluctant to offer him a new contract this summer, it does feel as though the club has managed to get the most it could have done out of Diaz, and that is reflected in the fact that he will become one of the club’s most expensive sales of all time…
5 - Raheem Sterling ($65M to Man City)
Having broken through as one part of the famous SSS trio that almost fired Liverpool to the Premier League title under Brendan Rodgers in 2014, Raheem Sterling found himself a player in demand the following year.
And the winger didn’t exactly hide away from the speculation, making it clear he wanted to join Manchester City.
Raheem Sterling left Liverpool for Manchester City in 2015
He has since managed to repair his relationship with Liverpool fans somewhat, although many supporters still feel some betrayal from his exit.
3 - Luis Diaz ($87M to Bayern Munich)
Diaz slots right in at No.3 on the list, underlining how well Liverpool has done out of the deal with Bayern.
The fee will come as a big boost to the Reds amid what has already been a summer of big-spending, and looks to become even more expensive, especially if a deal for Alexander Isak manages to pull through.
2 - Luis Suarez ($100M to Barcelona)
Luis Suarez had come close to leaving Liverpool a year before he eventually made his move to Barcelona in 2014
Arsenal’s infamous £40M plus £1 bid though was laughed off by the Reds’ owners, and the Uruguayan almost fired Liverpool to the title as a result.
His 31 goals in the 2013/14 season brought the Reds agonizingly close to ending their long wait, but they also had the added effect of bringing him to the attention of arguably the best team around at that time.
He subsequently made the move to Barcelona for $100M, and formed a quite unbelievable frontline alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar as he won the Champions League in his first season at the Camp Nou.
1 - Philippe Coutinho ($142M to Barcelona)
Seven years on, Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona in 2018 remains the most expensive exit from Liverpool, and still perhaps the best deal the club has ever done.
His move to Catalonia still ranks as the third-most expensive transfer of all time, and it was the deal that would kick-start the Reds’ success under Jurgen Klopp.
With the Coutinho money in hand, Liverpool would go on to sign Alisson Becker and Fabinho the following summer, with the pair playing a huge role in the 2019 Champions League victory and 2020 Premier League title win.
Coutinho’s career, meanwhile, only went downhill, and Barcelona has never really recovered financially from its disastrous bit of business
