Fresh from their opening friendly of the summer, Liverpool's players were back in training on Tuesday, with cameras at the AXA Training Centre capturing their ongoing preparations for the new season.

It's the first time we've gotten a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the Reds this summer, with new signings Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Giorgi Mamardashvili all involved after their arrivals.

So too were the likes of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez as speculation over their futures continues, while captain Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker were back after sitting out Sunday's friendly, although there was one notable absentee.

Here's what Liverpool.com spotted from Tuesday's training session at the Reds' base in Kirkby.

Wirtz's immediate impact

Liverpool fans might have missed the chance to see Wirtz in action for the first time in Sunday's friendly, but they will have been excited by what they saw of him in training.

The German star was immediately in the thick of the action, and we got a glimpse of just what he can offer next season as he laid on an assist for Diaz to score during the session out on the grass.

We still don't have a clear indication of what position he might take up in Arne Slot's side during the new campaign, with supporters still trying to work out whether we might see him in the No.10 role, out on the left, or even as a false nine.

That might well be determined by the Reds' remaining transfer business, although the early signs from Wirtz are promising, and anticipation will be growing ahead of his first appearance in a game.

Slot makes Diaz feelings clear

Luis Diaz's future at Liverpool is coming into sharp focus as Bayern Munich looks to be stepping up its pursuit of the Colombian.

The fact that Slot is keeping him involved suggests there are certainly no hard feelings if Diaz has indeed told the club he wants to move on.

And there was further evidence of that when the Liverpool boss gave his winger a pat on the head as he made his way out of the gym session, with Slot perhaps indicating that Diaz is still firmly part of his plans.

Ngumoha hint

Rio Ngumoha lit up the first half of Sunday's friendly against Preston as he once again impressed against senior opposition.

Still only 16, he looked right at home alongside the likes of Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa - albeit, this was ultimately the first pre-season game of the summer, and so we can't draw too many conclusions as to what sort of part he might play next season.

He does at least look like he'll continue to get opportunities this summer, though, having been involved in the latest training session, along with the likes of Trey Nyoni and Luca Stephenson, who also impressed against Preston.

Wirtz and Salah chat

Liverpool fans will be licking their lips at the thought of a team including both Wirtz and Salah next season, and the pair already seems to be striking up a good relationship.

Wirtz could be seen chatting with Salah before a warm-up routine, with the two players then pairing up for an exercise before getting into a proper match situation.

If those two can strike up a good relationship on the pitch as well, who knows just how far Liverpool could go next season?

No sign of Mac Allister

What might come as a concern from Tuesday's session is that there appeared to be no sign of Alexis Mac Allister, either in the video released by the club or the pictures.

The midfielder missed the end of last season through injury before sitting out Argentina's international games through the summer, although his appearance on Sunday suggested he would be back for pre-season, even if he didn't feature in the game at the weekend.

But he was nowhere to be seen in Tuesday's session, with no word yet on whether he is still struggling with injury, or if there is any other reason for his absence.
