There’s an obvious candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool with Ruben Amorim looking unlikely at the moment.

For weeks now, it seemed like Ruben Amorim was destined to be the man to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

However, after he travelled to London to meet with West Ham United, everything is up in the air again.

Just like when Xabi Alonso announced his decision to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool fans are once again having to explore alternative options.

There are plenty of potential candidates for the job right now. However, there is one who stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Why Unai Emery is the most obvious replacement for Jurgen Klopp

Amorim may have an exceptional record in Portugal, however, his record in European competitions would have raised some question marks at Liverpool.

The 39-year-old has never really managed to guide Sporting CP beyond the quarter-finals of a European competition – the furthest he got was the quarter-final stage in the Europa League.

But there is a candidate who has enjoyed a lot of success in European football, and who could be available for Liverpool this summer.

That candidate is 52-year-old Unai Emery. Not only is he doing a great job at Aston Villa right now, but he’s led the likes of Villareal to a Champions League semi-final, got Arsenal to a Europa League final and won three Europa League titles with Sevilla.

Currently, his side are the only English team still fighting in Europe, with Emery guiding Villa to the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League.

Unai Emery would be a great fit for Liverpool

With Premier League experience under his belt and that kind of proven track record in European competition, Emery just seems like the obvious candidate to replace Klopp.

The Spaniard plays exciting attacking football, he likes to play young players and moving to Anfield could be the perfect next step in his career.

For Liverpool, there aren’t many better options than him in the current market.
