Liverpool have been hard at work trying to bring new signings through the door as early as possible this summer.

Even before the transfer window has officially opened, Liverpool are set to land Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen with the Reds also closing in on Milos Kerkez, three deals that will significantly improve Arne Slot’s squad.

One key position that Liverpool fans will be hoping is improved this summer is the striker area, with Darwin Nunez expected to depart Anfield in the coming weeks having once again failed to lead the line with the consistency Liverpool need from a no.

Indeed, Alexander Isak was Liverpool’s top target before Newcastle United’s qualification for the UEFA Champions League, yet another player linked with the Reds might have now just put himself at the top of Slot’s list for a new centre-forward after his recent comments.

Benjamin Sesko has been linked with Liverpool in recent weeks, with the RB Leipzig striker expected to leave the Bundesliga club in the summer having enjoyed a 20+ goal season for the first time in his young career.

And in a recent interview with Sport1, Sesko described which kind of club he would want to join should he leave Leipzig, with the Slovenian international saying he wants to sign for a team where his development will be put first and where he can play his best football.

Indeed, whilst there are a number of teams that could fit this description, Liverpool are by far the best, with Slot this season alone taking Ryan Gravenberch, Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah to levels that no supporter would have expected, and the Dutchman could also do the same for Sesko.

Sesko said: “Leipzig has given me a lot and continues to give me a lot every day.

It’s a great club to develop at.

In the future, I want to play for a club that suits me, that brings out the best in me.

That’s the most important thing for me.”

It’s fair to say that Liverpool really missed the mark with Nunez, an expensive signing who, whilst providing some real moments of quality on the pitch and joy for supporters, just never looked up to scratch when it came to being a long-term striking option for the Reds.

Yet the Uruguay international’s potential exit and Sesko coming in to replace Nunez could be a move that many Liverpool fans can get behind, with the 21-year-old attacker this season showing with Leipzig that he can become one of the best in the world at the right club with the right manager.

And Liverpool and Slot could be just that for Sesko, who this summer could finally make the move to the Premier League and become the new great out-and-out striker that the Reds have not had since the days of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
