£60m man that prefers Liverpool move over Man United said he is ‘two steps’ behind Anfield star

Liverpool could be after a new central defender this summer. Joel Matip looks certain to leave Anfield on a free transfer, while Joe Gomez continues to cover his teammates on either side of the defence.

With Champions League football on the horizon for whoever takes charge at Liverpool next season, the need for a new centre-back is growing at Anfield. Virgil van Dijk turns 33 in July, workload is very high.

Especially for a player approaching his mid-thirties, while Ibrahima Konate is no stranger to injury. So, Liverpool need a centre-back this summer – and there are not many better than Juve’s Gleison Bremer.

The Brazil defender, 27, has impressed in the two seasons he has spent at Juventus. Clocking up 72 games, Bremer has helped a sturdy Juventus defence keep 13 clean sheets in 28 Serie A games this term.

Gleison Bremer prefers Liverpool over Manchester United move

Manchester United are keen on doing a deal for Bremer in the coming months as Erik ten Hag looks to improve his options in the middle of the defence. Something the Dutchman desperately needs to do.

But, further reports claim that the £60m-rated defender would prefer a move to Liverpool over a transfer to Old Trafford. Anfield, Manchester City or Real Madrid. He may end up at Anfield in the coming months.

Whether The Reds make a move for him remains to be seen, but what a signing he would be – especially, with the need for a new defender like Bremer rapidly growing at Anfield. He is within the price range.

Speaking to Italian outlet TMW earlier this year, Bremer compared himself to van Dijk – claiming he is “two steps” behind the Reds star: “There are many defenders strong players around, like Van Dijk.

“He is two steps above me because he won the Champions League and plays in a tough league. When a player retires, only the trophies won count, if you haven’t won nothing you can’t say you were the best.”

Bremer lacks van Dijk trophies, but can be long-term replacement

Liverpool will need to find themselves a long-term replacement for van Dijk. Coming up to 33, he cannot do what he is doing forever, especially with Liverpool often playing the best part of 60 games a season.

Van Dijk is renowned for his aerial ability, his ability to find a Liverpool player on the opposite side of the pitch and plenty more. A true Liverpool legemd – but above all, his strength is unrivalled. A true rarity.

Of all the centre-backs at the top level in European football, Bremer probably shares the most attributes with van Dijk. If the Reds are to go after a centre-back, then Bremer should be top of the shortlist.
