Liverpool’s new signing, Jeremy Jacquet, is not guaranteed to return to action this season after suffering a serious shoulder injury. At the start of February, the French defender was announced as Liverpool’s first signing of 2026.
The Reds reached a £60m agreement with Rennes for his transfer, and although he will move to Anfield in July, there is no guarantee that fans will see him play again this season. According to French journalist Francois Rauzy, the 20-year-old’s return “before the end of the season is not guaranteed.” Rauzy adds that “discussions [are] ongoing with Liverpool on the health status of Jacquet and the next steps to follow regarding the central defender.” Meanwhile, major outlet L’Equipe is reporting that Jacquet might have to undergo surgery to repair the damage to his shoulder, but there is no confirmation from Rennes on whether or not this is true.
If surgery is required, it will not only confirm that his season is over but also that it could impact his availability for pre-season and the start of the 2026-27 season, depending on the severity of the injury.
