Liverpool fans freak out as club confirm signing of ‘next Lewandowski’ by Russell Hughes Liverpool, Konstantinos Tsimikas (Photo by UEFA - Handout/UEFA via Getty Images) Konstantinos Tsimikas would be a perfect signing for Liverpool.

A Liverpool fan on Twitter has identified the Greek international as perfect Andy Robertson cover.

The 24-year-old made his first team debut for Erythrolefki against AEL Kalloni in 2015 before successive loan spells with Esbjerg and Willem II in Denmark and the Netherlands. The latter were the side that Sami Hyypia joined the Reds from.

He’s played 42 times in the Super League since returning from loan for the Greek champions, and 24 times in European competition – which could prove vital in giving Robertson a rest as he’s already experienced in elite competition.

@TheVirgilEffect’s thread on the Olympiakos full-back showcased his likeness to the Scot before joining Liverpool, and how he would be a perfect fit.

Thread on Olympiakos defender Konstantinos Tsimikas, the Greek left-back Liverpool should be all over this summer:

Chris highlighted how the Greek full-back’s goal contributions are on a similar level to Robertson’s – being involved in 9% of all the Greek side’s goals this season, and registering five less assists than Robertson in a similar amount of games.

• This becomes even more impressive when realising that Robertson has made 49 appearances this season, which is 2 more than Tsimikas has made in the past TWO seasons, yet he has only registered 5 more assists. This shows that the Greek defender is similar in ability.

He’s familiar with English opposition too.

Having played in both European competitions, he faced Tottenham in the Champions League group stage – losing 4-2 and drawing 2-2 in Greece.

They were knocked out into the Europa League and faced Arsenal in the round of 32. They lost 1-0 at home but turned it around at The Emirates, with Tsimikas performing admirably keeping the threatening Nicolas Pepe quiet.

Olympiakos were then drawn against Wolves before the restart, drawing the first leg 1-1 at the Karaiskaki stadium, and they will play them again in Cologne on August 6th.

• He’d come extremely cheap as well. Back in early June, it appeared Tsimikas was set to join Ligue 1’s Nice but it seems this move has strangely died for no apparent reason. A fee of £7.2M plus add-ons was agreed, meaning he could be signed for peanuts.

He also highlighted the financial logic behind a potential deal, with Tsimikas agreeing a deal worth £7.2 million with Nice earlier this year, which broke down due to reasons unknown.

This is a paltry £800,000 less than Liverpool signed Robertson for in 2017.

This makes sense especially with Liverpool seemingly having a smaller budget this summer, and with Andy Robertson’s primary cover being James Milner it would provide greater depth.

But Neco Williams was impressive in the role when playing there away at Brighton – so who knows whether Klopp will invest or not?
