Liverpool’s players and staff face the toughest of returns today as they make their way back to training this week.
Having delayed the first session on Friday following the tragic death of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva last week, Arne Slot and his players have the unenviable task of trying to restore some kind of normality as their pre-season preparations get underway.
The first batch of players are set to arrive at the AXA Training Centre today, with the first pre-season game of the summer scheduled to take place on Sunday at Preston as things stand - although the squad will be consulted before a final decision is made on whether that game will go ahead.

It will of course be a much more somber return to training compared to other years, given recent events, and quite how Slot will handle responsibilities over the coming days will be a tough task to say the least.
We do know that some players will arrive later than others, with Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton given more time to rest after their endeavors with England in winning the UEFA European U21 Championship.
Among the players and staff making their way to training this week though will be eight new faces, including six new additions to Slot’s playing squad.

Slot has two new additions to his coaching staff this summer after John Heitinga departed to become the new Ajax head coach, while head of goalkeeping Fabian Otte and Claudio Taffarel have also moved on.
In their place, Giovanni van Bronckhorst steps in to become Slot’s new assistant, while Xavi Valero returns to the club to lead the goalkeepers, having previously worked under Rafa Benitez at Anfield.
