With the international break now wrapped up, Liverpool return to Premier League action this Sunday, September 14, with a tricky trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley.

It’s their first fixture since players spread across four continents to represent their nations, and Reds fans know how difficult that first game back can be for the players.

Last season, among the only defeats Arne Slot’s men were dealt before clinching the title was Nottingham Forest at home after an international break.

Plenty of Liverpool players logged heavy minutes for their nations.

The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Florian Wirtz and many more played maximum minutes for their nations this September.

Arne Slot will hope that they arrive in the best condition possible.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the injury front for Burnley ahead of Sunday’s meeting.

Zeki Amdouni – out

Amdouni underwent anterior cruciate ligament surgery in pre-season and is sidelined for the vast majority of 2025/26.

The 24-year-old striker sustained the ACL tear in July and faces an estimated return around April 2026 after completing his rehabilitation programme.

Armando Broja – doubt

Broja remains a fitness doubt due to a lack of match sharpness rather than a specific injury.

He did not feature in Burnley’s 3-2 defeat to Manchester United prior to the international break.

Hjalmar Ekdal – doubt

The defender was forced off during Sweden’s recent international fixture against Kosovo with an unspecified issue.

He left the field in the 66th minute and will be a doubt heading into the clash at Turf Moor.

Bashir Humphreys – doubt

Humphreys has been managing a persistent quadriceps strain?

He played the first half of Burnley’s Carabao Cup tie as part of his gradual return, but Scott Parker cautions that progress remains slow.

Connor Roberts – doubt

The Welsh international has been  sidelined with a muscular knock sustained in training.

Scott Parker expected the right-back to rejoin the squad once the break concludes, but it remains to be seen if he will feature vs the Reds.

Axel Tuanzebe – out

Tuanzebe underwent minor thumb surgery in August and will be out until the injury heals fully.

The defender is now back on the grass in light sessions, though he is not yet available for match selection as he completes his post-operative recovery.

Alexander Isak – doubt

Alexander Isak has played very little competitive football since May, making his first return to the pitch against Kosovo for Sweden on Monday night.

Newcastle United had tailored a fitness plan for the Swede had he been reintegrated, with the Magpies medical staff reportedly asserting it would take until October for Isak to get back up to speed.

Arne Slot and his staff may not want to risk their new mega-money star.

Jeremie Frimpong – minor doubt

The Duch international has been recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in the Premier League opener vs Bournemouth.

Although reliable Merseyside journalist Lewis Steele reported today that he is in contention, we are still awaiting official confirmation from Arne Slot or the club.

However, chances are that the right-back features in some capacity.
