Curtis Jones was one of the many academy players who were promoted by Jurgen Klopp to Liverpool’s first team during his time in charge of the club.
Indeed, the 2024-25 season saw Jones’ playing time lessen due to the form shown by players such as Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch, but he still had a solid impact on the way things panned out.
And, in addition to this, the performances that Gravenberch, Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai all put in towards the end of the campaign will still be fresh in the memory of Slot going into the 2025-26 season.
So, it isn’t that much of a surprise to see BBC Sport chief Phil McNulty hinting at a potential Anfield exit for Jones this season.
McNulty also adds that Liverpool will want to earn back some of their ‘lavish spending’, and with Jones offering the chance of pure profit, they could look towards offloading the Englishman.
However, the report does add that Jones is ‘highly-rated’ by both Slot and Tuchel, which bodes well for the Englishman.

Although competition within Liverpool’s midfield will be rife next season, there should still be a place for Jones in the squad.
Jones has been the back-up option to Mac Allister throughout the 2024-25 campaign, but due to his speed on the ball and his keen eye for a pass, he could fill in across any of the three midfield positions.
Indeed, the Englishman’s impact next season will more than likely come off the bench, but if he takes his chances and proves that he’s better than others, such as Morgan Gibbs-White, it’s hard to see why Tuchel wouldn’t consider taking him.
