Newcastle United icon Alan Shearer was left heavily impressed by what he saw from Tijjani Reijnders as Manchester City beat Wolves on Saturday.
After finishing third last term, Man City hammered Wolves 4-0 to get their title challenge off to the best possible start on 16 August.
Reijnders dazzled on his Premier League debut by notching a goal and an assist against Vitor Pereira’s men at Molineux.
But while Pep Guardiola’s side enjoyed a comprehensive victory at Wolves, Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Manchester City are unlikely to sign both Rodrygo and Xavi Simons.

Following their heavy win at Wolves, Guardiola’s men host Tottenham in their first home game of the Premier League season on Saturday, 23 August.
Meanwhile, speaking live on BBC One’s Match of The Day on 16 August, Shearer dissected Reijnders’ opening day showing: “He was absolutely sensational.
It was almost the perfect midfield performance.
“For his first league game, to stand out like he did today, it was an incredible game from him.
Everything that he did, whether it was reading the game, whether it was he was particularly impressive actually running with and without the ball.

“He controlled the game, at his pace.
£46million, very, very impressive start from him and from Manchester City.
“You can see how much he stood out.
He really was impressive.”

Shearer is right to have singled out Reijnders for such high praise for his performance against Wolves on his Premier League debut.

Aside from his two goal contributions, the Netherlands international was a constant threat, which the West Midlands side struggled to deal with.
The central midfielder excelled for Milan last season, scoring 16 goals and producing four assists in 55 appearances across all competitions for the San Siro giants.
Reijnders’ showing against Wolves suggests that he is ready to have a similar impact in the Premier League to the one he enjoyed in Serie A.
However, while the 27-year-old oozed class against Pereira’s side, he is set for tougher tests when Manchester City take on Tottenham, Manchester United, and Arsenal in three of their next four fixtures.
If Reijnders displays similar form against Premier League heavyweights, then there will be no doubt that he was a successful acquisition from Guardiola.
