Russell Martin has been backed to get the best out of Dele Alli if Rangers decide to pursue a deal to sign the free agent this summer.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson explained that Rangers could take a chance on the “undoubted talent” on a free transfer following his departure from Como.
This comes after Ibrox legend Ally McCoist and Jeff Stelling tipped the former England midfielder for a move to Scotland live on talkSPORT [via Ibrox News].
Rangers are keen to strengthen in the attacking midfield role, having targeted Sheffield Wednesday star Josh Windass before he opted to join Wrexham.
Martin remains determined to bolster his squad before the transfer deadline and is exploring a number of options in the market in the window’s final month.
This article contains exclusive comment from Paul Robinson, a football pundit and former England, Tottenham and Leeds goalkeeper.
Football Insider revealed on 2 June that Rangers are preparing to make multiple signings this summer with the backing of new owners 49ers Enterprises.

Since the start of the transfer window, ten players have come through the door at Ibrox, but the manager does not want to stop there.
Robinson explained that while any talk about Dele moving to Rangers has come from “left-field”, there remains a chance they could gamble on the deal.
“Dele Alli is an undoubted talent, we know that,” he told Football Insider.
“I think the frustration is the talent he had when he was a youngster, ever since then and when he went to Everton the talk is about ‘can we get the best out of Dele Alli?’
“Leaving Como on a free, somebody is going to take that chance.
“Whether it be a manager, an owner or a coach, somebody will look at Dele and go ‘what a player he is, I can get the best out of him, put my arm on him’ etcetera.

“There are a lot of managers out there that think they can be the one to get the best out of him, and I think Russell Martin will feel the same.
“I think Dele has got to get the best out of himself first and be open to doing that.
“For Rangers, does he have the hunger, drive and desire to get back to those levels that he is capable of?
“Somebody will always give him that opportunity, because he is such a quality player.
“The financial rewards for him aren’t going to be anything like they were in the past.
“Do Rangers take a chance on him, with a manager like Russell Martin who manages and plays the way he does, would he fit?
Absolutely, he would fit.
“It’s a bit of a left-field suggestion, but why not?”

Amid ongoing speculation about potential arrivals at Ibrox, there has also been talk about potential sales given the strong interest in Hamza Igamane.
Football Insider revealed on 4 August that Rangers want to start a bidding war for Igamane to drive his price tag up if they are to sell him this summer.
Everton are believed to be keeping a close eye on him alongside the likes of Lille, Feyenoord, Rennes and Udinese after bids were turned down earlier in the window.
However, Football Insider revealed on 2 August that Everton will demand £20million for Igamane and his future could depend on their Champions League qualification.
