Crystal Palace’s Community Shield victory could be the start of “another memorable season” which Adam Wharton wants to be part of.
After going without major silverware for the entirety of their 119-year history and none at all since the Full Members’ Cup in 1991, Crystal Palace have now lifted two trophies in the space of 86 days at Wembley.
Last season’s FA Cup victory may have culminated in an unsuccessful appeal to CAS for their overturned Europe League place, but that disappointment comes less than a day after Community Shield success.
Palace’s 3-2 victory over Liverpool on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time saw Oliver Glasner‘s side pick up from where they left off last season, featuring the same starting line-up as the FA Cup Final with Wharton at its heart.

The uncertainty surrounding Palace’s European place ahead of the new season has led to a summer of inactivity on the transfer front at Selhurst Park, but Glasner has retained all of his big names thus far.
Wharton has been the subject of exit talk with Man City and Tottenham both keen on the midfielder, but Football Insider revealed on 19 July that Crystal Palace have placed a £100million price tag on his head.

That massive valuation has been enough to deter Spurs so far, and Wharton‘s celebratory Instagram post (11 August) implied that he’s ready to gear up for at least one more season at Selhurst Park.
Wharton said: “Community Shield Winners – Great start to hopefully another memorable season!”
Dean Henderson – who missed out on man-of-the-match to Alisson despite saving penalties from Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott in the shoot-out – said; “Love you northen!!!” in the comments below.

Football Insider Verdict
Although their massive price tag seems to have done the trick in warding off interest in Wharton from the Premier League‘s big hitters, Palace may not be so lucky when it comes to other members of their squad.
Eberechi Eze’s £68million release clause is yet to be triggered amid interest from London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham, with the Gunners’ vacant number 10 shirt to potentially be filled by the 27-year-old.

Marc Guehi is the player most likely to be cashed in on this summer though as his contract enters its final 12 months, with Liverpool and Newcastle locked level in a battle to sign the Crystal Palace captain.
Glasner losing the England centre-back would be a massive blow, but the prospect of a bidding war will give Palace hope that they can retain the bulk of their FA Cup and Community shield-winning side.
