The unprecedented FIFA Club World Cup special transfer window is set to close on Tuesday June 10, 2025, leaving Liverpool short of time to finalize their pursuit of Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez before the deadline.
The transfer window, which opened on June 1, represents FIFA’s attempt to level the playing field for the expanded 32-team Club World Cup tournament.
This exceptional registration period was designed to allow all participating clubs to strengthen their squads before the competition kicks off at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on June 14.
After June 10, there will be a five-day gap before the regular transfer window reopens on June 16 for English club.
And as things stand it does not look like either Florian Wirtz or Milos Kerkez will be a Liverpool player before then.
At the beginning of last week, Bayer Leverkusen rejected Liverpool’s second offer for their star midfielder which consisted of around 130 million euros.
The Anfield club is planning on submitting a final definitive offer this week to close the deal.
But one player who has been sealed and delivered is Armin Pesci, with the 20-year-old shot-stopper announced over the weekend as a Liverpool player.
The Hungarian joins from Puskas Akademia who gave his club a record sale.
Now Pécsi’s agent, Matyas Esterhazy—who also represents Dominik Szoboszlai—gave an extensive interview to M4 Sport, revealing the length of the contract his client has signed with the club.
When quizzed on the length, he replied:
“Five years,” Esterhazy said.
He also revealed that the 20-year-old will be joining up with his teammates at Anfield next season:
“Armin will be at Liverpool next season,” he said.
“This was one of the most important links in our decision.”
“We chose Liverpool because they outlined a professional plan that we can identify with, and Armin is a very intelligent, patient and ambitious player.”
Pecsi established himself as first-choice this past season, making 30 league appearances and helping his team secure a second-place finish in the Hungarian top flight.
In total, he featured 36 times across all competitions, keeping 11 clean sheets.
Pecsi joins a competitive goalkeeping setup at Anfield, with Giorgi Mamardashvili arriving as a direct replacement for the outgoing Caoimhin Kelleher, and Alisson Becker remaining the established first choice.
While Pecsi is not expected to challenge for the number one spot immediately, Liverpool’s recruitment team have outlined a long-term development plan for him as his agent confirmed
