Ajax centre-back Perr Schuurs insists he wants to stay at Ajax for a ‘few seasons’ after being linked with a move to Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly in the market for a new central defender with both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez set to miss the majority of the campaign through injury.

Last week, reports claimed that Liverpool had submitted an offer to sign Schuurs ahead of the January transfer window.

But the 21-year-old, who has only become a regular at Ajax this season, is keen to remain with the Dutch club.

‘I hear and read it [Liverpool rumours] too,’ Schuurs told SBS6 when asked about his link with Liverpool.

‘I want to play here for a few more seasons and win trophies. I’m not really working on that yet.’

Schuurs played in Ajax’s 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

And the defender believes his side should have escaped Anfield with at least a draw.

‘We come here for three points, but we don’t get them. We have created enough chances and earned at least a point,’ Schuurs said.

‘It was good, especially in the first half. Of course, I get a yellow card. Then it becomes a bit more wait-and-see, that is a factor in your head.

‘Personally, I can look back on a good game, but I am disappointed that we did not get more.’
