One Saudi Pro League club president has made a new claim about Mohamed Salah despite the Egyptian’s recent contract extension at the club.

The 32-year-old ended months of speculation and anxiety among the Liverpool fanbase by signing a new two-year contract that will see him stay up to ten years at the club.

Before Salah’s latest contract extension, several clubs were linked with a move for him.

Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, and Real Madrid were thought to be potential European destinations Salah could have gone to had he not renewed his Liverpool deal.

However, none of those clubs could have offered Salah the money Saudi Pro League clubs were willing to pay him to sign.

Salah reportedly turned down a mammoth offer from the Middle East to remain at Anfield.

Currently, the Egyptian earns £350,000 per week, making him one of the highest earners in the Premier League.

Middle-East-based journalist Isamel Mahmoud has reported that Saudi Arabia was willing to offer a staggering €150 million per year to entice him away:

Additionally, it would have been tax-free income, making Salah’s decision all the more noble.

However, Salah snubbed all those to sign for his beloved Liverpool.

Despite his recent decision to commit to Liverpool, it appears that talks about him potentially playing in Saudi Arabia one day aren’t going to stop soon.

The Saudi Pro League is expected to make another big play for mega-money additions this summer, a few months after spending big on Jhon Duran from Aston Villa.

While Salah will not be on the list right now, he remains someone that top executives are dreaming of bringing to the region at some point in the future.

As a Muslim player who hails from the Middle East region, the 32-year-old has understandably been a particularly attractive target for the Saudi Pro League.

“We are interested in all international players?

Salah is definitely at the top of this list, and we are happy to have him in Saudi Arabia,” Al Ahli president Khlaed Al Eissa told Egypt’s Channel One (via 90min).

“God willing, at the right time, he will be with one of the Saudi clubs.”

Salah’s new deal will expire in 2027, at which point he will be nearly 35.

At that point, the Saudi Pro League might become more appealing, though he has not given it serious consideration just yet.

Meanwhile, Al Ahli is the club were Salah’s former Liverpool teammate Roberto Firmino currently plays.

The Brazilian recently helped his side win the Asian Champions League title, name-checking Salah in one of the interviews he conducted after the final.
