Pep Guardiola could have another Jack Grealish on his hands as some of their superstar players continue to slip down the pecking order at Man City.

Grealish joined Everton on a season-long loan due to a lack of game time at the Etihad Stadium, and since making the move, the 30-year-old winger has thrived under David Moyes.

While the Citizens made several key changes to the squad over the summer, Pep Guardiola is coming under serious pressure at Man City, especially after back-to-back defeats to Tottenham and Brighton.

Stefan Ortega, Rico Lewis, and Kalvin Phillips were all heavily linked with exits this summer, with Nottingham Forest interested in Lewis.

All three remain with the Citizens, however.

Another player whose future is currently uncertain is Phil Foden, following an extremely difficult 2024-25 campaign.

Speaking about those excluded from the latest England squad, Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist were concerned by Foden’s lack of minutes for City in recent months.

“What about Phil Foden?” Brazil said on talkSPORT (10 September), to which McCoist replied: “It’s a little bit worrying, isn’t it?”

Brazil continued: “[Marcus] Rashford’s in [the England squad], and he scores.

To give Foden a chance, he’ll have to get into the City side, and that could easily happen through injuries.

“Foden was Premier League Player of the Year two years ago.

He’s just fallen out of favour with Pep Guardiola.”

McCoist later added: “It is a little bit concerning about Phil Foden.”

Having been involved in the last squad, facing Albania and Latvia, Thomas Tuchel was brutally honest about his disappointment in the Man City star’s performances.

Speaking back in March [The Guardian], he said: “Both our wingers who started were not as impactful as they can be in club football.

I’m not so sure why we struggled to bring the ball quickly to them.”

Tuchel was also critical of Man United loanee Rashford, but after bringing him back into the squad following his move to Barcelona, it is clear that Foden does not have the same respect.

Now, three games into the 2025-26 season, the 25-year-old has just 15 minutes of Premier League football to his name, only being brought on as a late substitute against Spurs.

The majority of fans at the Etihad are also concerned for the player’s future, but Guardiola has shown enough over the last decade that he knows what he’s doing.
