Newcastle players both past and present have been quick to react after the club confirmed the arrival of another new signing ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.

It has been a frustrating summer for Eddie Howe, with Newcastle missing out on several top targets who opted to join Premier League rivals instead.

Bryan Mbeumo had his heart set on a move to Manchester United, while Joao Pedro and Liam Delap both chose Chelsea, leaving the Magpies to explore other options.

Despite those setbacks, there have still been notable additions to the squad.

Anthony Elanga arrived last month, while Aaron Ramsdale joined Newcastle on loan to provide extra depth in goal.

Now, the focus has shifted to shoring up their defence, with the club identifying a new centre-back to address any issues at the back.

Ramsdale joined Newcastle instead of James Trafford.

It was confirmed on 12 August that Malick Thiaw has officially joined Newcastle in a deal worth £35million and the club announced the news on Instagram with the caption:

“A new local is in town.

We are delighted to announce the signing of defender Malick Thiaw on a long-term deal from Italian side AC Milan.”

The post was met with a wave of positive reactions, with Bruno Guimaraes, Jacob Murphy and Newcastle legend Alan Shearer all showing their approval by liking it.

The German international becomes Howe’s third signing of the summer, with strengthening at centre-back high on the club’s list of priorities.

Football Insider had revealed that Newcastle target Marc Guehi would prefer a move to Liverpool and would likely turn down the Magpies if they reignited their interest from last summer.

Thiaw, who has three caps for Germany, played a key role for AC Milan last season, making 31 appearances as the Serie A side finished eighth, and it remains to be seen whether he features in the club’s first fixture against Aston Villa.

With further incomings still expected, the Magpies are also dealing with the ongoing situation surrounding Alexander Isak, who wants to leave Newcastle.

However, Football Insider revealed Newcastle have no intention of selling Isak to Liverpool unless they can secure a suitable replacement before the transfer window closes.

The club have already missed out on several attacking targets, including Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike, and are reluctant to part with their star striker without adequate cover in place.
