“The chasing pack - Newcastle, Villa, Brighton, Spurs, maybe Man United, maybe a few others - are trying to somehow get into the top four with what the top four have spent in Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool, so it's going to be a fascinating season.

“Some of the signings [have been great], and obviously it's not finished yet, so I'm really excited.” Shearer himself scored 260 goals while in the Premier League with Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers.

And while he anticipates excitement, he cannot foresee any major upsets coming from further down the table.
