Liverpool are sitting at the top of the Premier League table with 12 points to their name.

The Reds have got their 2025-26 season off to a perfect start, if you exclude their Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace, of course, with the Reds proving their worth once again.

And, although retaining the Premier League title will likely be one of Slot’s main goals this season, the Champions League will be the thing he’s keeping his eye on the most.

One thing that has been made clear in the 2025-26 season is that Liverpool are not at their best yet.

“I would be extremely happy if I were them, they’ve not played well at all, yet they’ve won four games out of four,” Shearer said while speaking on The Rest is Football Podcast.

“They’ve [also] got a £125million centre-forward to come in as well.”

Gary Lineker then jokingly asked: “Who’s that Al?”

To which Shearer replied: “I dunno, I’ve forgot his name, I’m not sure.

“I would be really happy with that [four wins out of four], you’d have to be wouldn’t you.

“For the other teams, it has to be really worrying that they’ve been nowhere near their best but they’ve won four out of four, they’ve found a way!”

Although Liverpool have been rather lucky with their results this season, it still feels like more can come from the Reds.

Indeed, there have been glimpses of the team that Liverpool could become this term, but since we’re only four games into the Premier League season, it’s clear that more needs to come from the Anfield outfit.

So, if Liverpool want to get their Champions League campaign off to a good start, plenty more chances need to be created with each player doing their part.
