The former England international left Liverpool at the end of the 2022/23 campaign when the club confirmed he would leave upon his contract’s expiry.
The 32-year-old was informed of Liverpool’s decision not to renew his deal, though he later described feeling surprised by the silence surrounding the club’s handling of his departure.
Following his Anfield exit, Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Turkish giants Besiktas on a free transfer in August 2023, signing a three-year contract.
During his two seasons in Istanbul, he made 50 appearances and scored five goals, helping the club win the Turkish Cup in 2024.
However, his time at Besiktas was marred by injuries, including a significant thigh muscle tear in December 2023 that sidelined him for four months.
Under Giovanni van Bronckhorst (coincidentally Arne Slot’s current assistant), he was frozen out of the squad and excluded from their Europa League group stage roster.
Then in August this year, Besiktas mutually agreed to terminate Oxlade-Chamberlain’s contract with one year remaining, paying him a €1.75 million severance fee.
Now the Daily Star have reported that Leeds United are believed to be very keen on signing the former Liverpool man
The former Premier League winner with Liverpool is believed to be desperate for a return to English football, with Leeds among the sides showing interest, though they face competition from Championship rivals Birmingham City.
Daniel Farke’s side would avoid any transfer fee risk since the former Liverpool star is available on a free transfer.
The primary concern, however, would be negotiating his wage demands.
Reports indicate that Oxlade-Chamberlain was earning around £65,000 per week in Turkey, which is significantly lower than the £125,000 per week he earned during his time at Anfield.
