Alan Shearer claims there is "no chance" of Alexander Isak joining up with Mohamed Salah and Florian Wirtz at Liverpool to form the ultimate attacking force.

While Liverpool are keen on the idea of Isak becoming their new number nine and being another exciting addition to their squad at Anfield, pulling off a transfer is going to be easier said than done.

Notable signings have already been secured by Arne Slot’s side in the form of Jeremie Frimpong and Wirtz – a British transfer record for £116m.

However, Liverpool are not the only club in pursuit of Isak, with Arsenal also long-term admirers.

The Magpies have no intention to let Isak go on the cheap either, reportedly placing his worth at well over £150million.

And during Sunday's Rest is Football podcast, Gary Lineker delved into Liverpool's strategic transfers for the upcoming season.

He said: "Liverpool have been very impressive so far, I think, with the signings that they've done.

On the German recruit, Shearer said: "I think he'll be floating between the two.

"I think you'll have obviously Salah on one side and whoever on the other side, and it'll be him that'll be the 10, the forward or whatever, and they'll just sort of rotate and do what they have to do.

Right?"

Shearer wasn’t shy to express his feelings, cheekily holding up both his middle fingers to the camera as he said: "No chance!"

It’s clear Shearer is far from keen on seeing Isak leave Newcastle, like any fan – especially since the Swedish striker has been pivotal to their success.

The 25-year-old played a massive part in Newcastle clinching their first significant trophy since 1955 by besting Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, and also aided in their qualification for next season's Champions League.

With an impressive tally of 27 goals and six assists across 42 appearances in the 2024/25 campaign, Isak stands out as an essential asset to Howe’s team.

However, Liverpool have already shattered the British transfer record once this summer with Wirtz, and they might be keen to flex their financial prowess to maintain their recent Premier League title triumph.
