Isak sat out Liverpool’s 1-0 Premier League win at Burnley on Sunday instead to work on his fitness having missed a proper pre-season at Newcastle United before making his British record £125million move to Anfield at the start of this month.

Reds boss Arne Slot hinted afterwards the Sweden international is likely to make his Liverpool debut against Atletico, which took a step nearer with his involvement in the training session at the AXA Training Centre at Kirkby.

Jones, though, was again missing having been absent from the Burnley game through injury suffered in the win over Arsenal at the end of last month.

There was better news for Liverpool with Alexis Mac Allister part of the session having being forced off at half-time at Turf Moor with an ankle issue.

Youngsters Rio Ngumoha, Trey Nyoni and Jayden Danns were also in training, with Federico Chiesa involved despite not being in Liverpool’s Champions League squad for the league stage.
