Dan Burn believes that Newcastle’s squad would be ‘upset’ to lose Alexander Isak this summer after the striker submitted a transfer request.

The Magpies’ star striker did not travel with his teammates for a pre-season tour of Asia yesterday.

Newcastle do not want to sell, but a bid of £130m could be enough to pry him away from St James Park this summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports from Newcastle’s camp in Singapore, Burn admitted it would hurt to lose such an important player.

“It’s a question for Alex to answer,” said the centre-back, who made his England debut in March.

“He's obviously a big player for us, but we do have a lot of quality in the squad as well.

Bringing Anthony [Elanga] in as well, which I think was a great signing.

“If we lost any player it would upset our tight-knit group that’s been together two, three years now.

“From our point of view, we just have to control what we can control in the moment.”

He added that he hoped Isak would soon join up with the squad: “We are looking forward to getting him back when he’s fit.”

Bruno Guimaraes concurred, describing Isak as a ‘top striker’, but maintained that he had skipped pre-season to receive treatment.

“He is a top striker, his last three seasons speak by themselves,” the Brazilian said.

He is a top player, but as far as I know he is in treatment with the club.

“For what we know, Isak’s injury is not training for, I don’t know, five days.

He stayed there to make himself better, so he is there with a small injury.

“We know the situation behind him, but this is not for me to speak about, I am just a player.
