Alexander Isak has rejected Newcastle United’s latest contract offer according to the Times.
It comes after the Swedish striker’s absence from Newcastle’s pre-season squad departing for Singapore raised more than a few eyebrows.
While club officials maintain that Alexander Isak is sidelined by a minor thigh issue, the injury has led to him training alone in recent days.
Rather than travel with his teammates, Isak has stayed behind at the Benton facilities, where he’s been observed undertaking individual sprint sessions and sticking to a customised rehab plan away from the main squad’s group activities.
Incredibly, David Ornstein challenged this narrative and instead suggested that the Swede asked not to go on tour as a result of all the transfer interest in him.
Now the Times’ Matt Hardy reports:
“Alexander Isak has turned down Newcastle United’s attempts to get him to commit his future to the club and is exploring his options to leave.”
“The Times understands that talks have taken place this summer to make Isak the best-paid player in the club’s history, amid interest from Liverpool, but negotiations have so far failed.”
“It is thought the Swede is seeking a new deal worth about £300,000 a week.”
