The British-record deal, reported at around £125 million plus add-ons, brought an end to relentless transfer rumours that had dominated headlines throughout the summer.
Isak, 25, arrives with an impressive Premier League record of 62 goals in 109 appearances for Newcastle, but he has not featured in a competitive match since May.
However, he was called up to the Swedish national team and is currently with the side training.
The timing of the transfer could not be better for both Isak and Liverpool.
He is set to earn valuable minutes in the away fixture against Slovenia on September 5 and the trip to Kosovo on September 8.
Those appearances will help him shake off match rust and hit the ground running as Liverpool chase Premier League and Champions League honours this season.
While manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has already confirmed that Isak can’t do a full 90 minute game, he remains a “gamechanger”
This suggests minutes off the bench.
Newcastle United sent out a very lowkey statement announcing the sale, with the Geordie club writing:
“Newcastle United can announce the sale of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a significant British record transfer fee.”
“The Sweden international joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022 and made 109 appearances in all competitions.”
Many have declared the statement to be quite bitter, especially for a player who helped bring the first piece of silveware to the club in 70 years.
But it seems the feeling is shared by Isak’s agent Vlado Lemic.
In a statement to talkSPORT, he said:
“It’s nice when you have someone to be with, but it’s even nicer when you know you’ll never be with them again.”
One does not have to be Sherlock to put piece together what Lemic is insinuating.
Meanwhile, Isak was only looking forward when speaking as a Liverpool player for the first time:
“I feel amazing,” he said.
“It’s been a long journey to get here.
But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for.
It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.”
“I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work?
I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there.”
Isak added:
“I think I have a lot to give, I think I have a lot to improve
I’m a striker but I always want to give as much as possible to the team, mainly goals but much more than that as well.”
