Alexander Isak looks increasingly likely to leave Newcastle(Image: Serena Taylor/Newcastle United via Getty Images)
Alexander Isak’s previous comments explain exactly why the Newcastle striker is looking to leave.
The Liverpool-linked forward has told the Magpies he wants to explore a move away after three years of playing under Eddie Howe.
Isak has been linked with a move to the Reds all summer but a transfer appeared unlikely, with Newcastle repeatedly stating that their talisman was not for sale and slapping a rumoured £150million price-tag on him.
Liverpool instead turned their attention to signing Frenchman Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal potentially worth up to £79m.
However, the latest updates surrounding Isak mean the Premier League champions are now considering breaking the British transfer record for the second time this summer for the Sweden international.
It was announced on Thursday morning that Isak will miss Newcastle's pre-season trip to Asia due to what was described as a thigh problem.
But Isak is understood to be considering his options.
Newcastle, however, are only willing to go up to £200,000-per-week, which may have contributed to Isak now seeking a move elsewhere.
But, beyond the talk of wage negotiations, the forward has made it very clear in the past that he is someone who does not shy away from taking the next step for the good of his career, even if that move is considered bold or risky.

After sealing his £63m transfer to Newcastle in August 2022, he told the club’s official website that the same mindset prompted him to leave Sweden for Borussia Dortmund as a mere 17-year-old.

Isak said: "I didn't hesitate to leave Sweden, it was just deciding where.
I knew my chance would come, even if it wasn't there, I knew it would come at another club and I wanted to be ready."
Liverpool are considered to be a realistic destination for Isak should he leave St James’ Park this summer, given their recent Premier League success and financial capability to pull off the move.
