Alexander Isak could play for Newcastle again on one condition as his transfer saga continues with days remaining of the transfer window.

The blockbuster transfer focus of the summer has been whether the Swede would end up at Anfield after Isak said he would never play for Newcastle again.

Liverpool submitted an opening Isak offer totalling £120million which was deemed insufficient by the Toon as they struggle to find a striker replacement.

Sources have told Football Insider that a Newcastle u-turn could be on the cards for Isak if his move falls through to the Reds, yet this relies on a crucial part of the footballing foodchain.

An update from Ben Jacobs on X (26 August) has given both Magpies and Liverpool fans greater clarity on the Sweden international’s potential move to Liverpool.

According to Jacobs, whilst the number 14 remains sure he doesn’t want to play again for the Toon, a change of heart by the Reds may prompt him to rethink his approach.

The correspondent said: “Alexander Isak has no plans to reintegrate or play for Newcastle again.

“Isak would only consider a softened stance if Liverpool tell him a move is impossible this summer.

“Liverpool won’t offer anywhere close to £150m if a second bid arrives.

Club know they are the only suitor and will stick to their valuation should a deal present itself this week.”

Football Insider verdict

With a matter of days left in the window, it is appearing more and more unlikely the 25-year-old will bag his move to Liverpool.

The deadly finisher has gone from being a darling of the fans to public enemy number one on Tyneside with his constant outward display of discontent at the club.

After winning the EFL Cup last season, I’m shocked by the way the situation has panned out as the Swede is throwing his Magpies legacy down the drain.

Moreover, with his national side sitting in their best position for a decade with a whole host of talent including Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres, the number 14 needs to get playing again to be ready for the World Cup.

The Scandinavian country failed to make the 2022 global tournament in Qatar and will be itching to be back on the international stage.

Without a fit and firing Isak as he throws his toys out the pram, the former Borussia Dortmund striker is doing his country a disservice and is risking their place in North America come next summer.
