Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak finds himself at the center of an increasingly complex transfer saga as his desire to join Liverpool meets fierce resistance from his current club’s Saudi Arabian owners.
The Swedish international has been making headlines throughout the summer transfer window after reportedly informing Newcastle of his intention to explore opportunities elsewhere, with Liverpool emerging as his preferred destination.
The 25-year-old striker would earn approximately £250,000 per week at Anfield, similar to the salary structure offered to recent signing Hugo Ekitike.
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed that “Alexander Isak has already reached a verbal agreement in principle with Liverpool over a contract running until 2031.
Isak wants to make the move to LFC as early as this transfer window”.
This development represents a significant step forward in Liverpool’s pursuit of the striker, who scored 23 Premier League goals last season.
Reports suggest that Isak has effectively gone on strike to force through his move to Liverpool.
The striker has reportedly not attended Newcastle’s training ground since expressing his desire to leave and is said to be following his own training program at home.
Reports from Spain last night claimed the Swede was spotted in the San Sebastian region of Spain as he continues to train on his own to be ready for a Liverpool move.
And yet more lofty claims have emerged from Spain.
Diario AS reporter Eduardo Burgos has claimed that Isak has already told his Newcastle teammates that he will be moving on this summer.
Taking to X, he added that official talks between the two clubs will take place sometime this week:
“Newcastle are waiting for Liverpool’s first offer for Alexander Isak,” he wrote.
“It is expected to be above £120M?
The player has already informed both the club and the dressing room of his desire to leave.”
“Official negotiations between both clubs are set to begin this week.”
As the transfer window progresses, all parties find themselves in an increasingly tense standoff.
Fabrizio Romano has suggested there’s a “60 percent” chance of Isak joining Liverpool, but acknowledges there is “still work to do”.
The key factor remains Newcastle’s willingness to open negotiations, something they have steadfastly refused to do without a replacement secured.
