Liverpool would love to add Alexander Isak to their ranks, as the striker would bolster their goal-scoring options; however, Newcastle United are hesitant to see their star player leave.
The Reds received some good news though in their pursuit of Isak recently, as Newcastle had a bid accepted for Benjamin Sesko, as the Magpies look to have a replacement in before they allow the Swedish striker to leave St James’ Park.
Liverpool have been busy in the transfer market this summer, with the club seemingly determined to add some more talent to the squad in Isak and even in defence, with the Reds monitoring Brentford captain Nathan Collins.

Their pursuit of Isak has arguably become a saga from the actions of the striker; however, one former Liverpool player believes he was justified in acting in such a manner with his parent club.
The former Liverpool full-back believes that while the actions of Isak may not be looked at favourably by fans, it is necessary for him to get the move to Liverpool.
Speaking on the BBC’s Monday Night Club, Stephen Warnock argued that if he did not act like this and attempt to force a move to Anfield, then Isak may regret remaining at Newcastle when he looks back on his career.
He said: “He is not thinking of playing in the Champions League.
He is thinking of winning the Champions League, and that is the difference with Newcastle; they’re thinking we are competing in the Champions League this year; we’ve got Champions League football at St.
James’ Park.

“Whereas Liverpool are thinking of the end date, they’re thinking, ‘Who are we going to play in that final because we have just assembled a squad that is more than capable of winning this trophy?

“At some point you might have to force that issue, and it doesn’t look good, but you’re almost forced into a position to do that, and if you don’t, there can be regrets at the end of your career.”
It was pointed out to Warnock on the programme that Isak had won the Carabao Cup with Newcastle over Liverpool last season and there was a possibility of further success with the club.
However, the former Liverpool full-back argued Isak was pivotal to this success, and so he wants to join Liverpool for further success, as they will be competing for multiple trophies.

He argued that due to the spending Liverpool have done over the summer, they will be fighting for both the Champions League and the Premier League.
Newcastle won the Carabao Cup last season, their first domestic trophy in 70 years, whereas Liverpool had countless titles in that period.
