Liverpool have already broken the British transfer record once this summer and may yet do it again in the coming weeks.
The Premier League champions have reportedly approached Newcastle United over a deal for Alexander Isak, with Darwin Nunez expected to leave.
According to The Athletic, Arne Slot’s side have made contact with the Magpies but no formal bid has been made so far.
The Reds are aware of Newcastle’s stance on Isak in that he isn’t for sale this summer.
Isak is the leading target for Liverpool this summer.
Newcastle are reportedly bracing themselves for an official offer from Liverpool for Isak that could be in the region of £130m.
The agent of Isak met with Eddie Howe at the club’s training ground earlier this month.
Isak has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League since joining Newcastle United in August 2022 for a club record £63million.
The Sweden international has racked up 109 appearances and scored 62 goals for Newcastle across all competitions.
Last season, he netted 23 times in the league as Newcastle secured Champions League qualification, as well as winning the Carabao Cup, and scored the winner against the Reds in the final at Wembley.
Providing the latest update on Isak, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Isak is open to moving to Liverpool this summer.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: “There is direct club-to-club contact between Liverpool & Newcastle for Alexander Isak, which is already a big step.
“Isak didn’t close the doors to Liverpool.
He is in conversations with Newcastle, but he didn’t stop Liverpool.
“He seems open to a move?
Liverpool have the bid ready, now they’re waiting for Newcastle’s decision in the next hours/days, it can’t be too long.”
