Alexander Isak makes seven-figure sacrifice to force blockbuster Liverpool switch

Mon 1 September 2025 9:45, UK

Alexander Isak will not receive a loyalty bonus from Newcastle United ahead of his move to defending Premier League champions Liverpool.

The news comes even though Isak has not handed in a transfer request to the North East club amid his increasingly imminent move to Merseyside.

Meanwhile, the Sweden striker’s switch to Liverpool has left Newcastle supporters furious with the Saudi ownership group PIF.

The Magpies are yet to win in the Premier League this term, enduring 0-0 draws with Aston Villa and Leeds United either side of their 3-2 defeat to Arne Slot’s side on Monday, 25 August.

While Liverpool have persistently pursued Isak this summer, the 25-year-old has refused to play for Newcastle.

Amid their advances for Isak, the Reds have made a strong start to their Premier League title defence, winning all three of their top-flight games so far.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope revealed via X on Monday, 1 September: “Alexander Isak will not receive a loyalty payment from Newcastle, despite never handing in a transfer request.

Liverpool made a statement by beating Arsenal 1-0 on Sunday, 31 August, thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s long-range free-kick.

The Reds have already significantly strengthened their ranks since winning the Premier League title last term, with the additions of stars like Germany international Florian Wirtz and former Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.

Ekitike has hit the ground running for the Anfield giants, notching three goals and one assist in his first four games across all competitions for Slot’s men.

However, the acquisition of Isak will come as the biggest boost to Liverpool’s chances of winning back-to-back Premier League titles.

The former Real Sociedad man has proven himself as one of the best strikers in Europe, scoring 27 goals across all competitions for Eddie Howe’s men last season.

His prolific eye for goal would give Liverpool an even more dangerous attack than the one they already boast with global superstars like Mohamed Salah.

Meanwhile, football commentator Ian Darke has outlined what the future may have in store for Reds starlet Rio Ngumoha in a Liverpool News 247 exclusive.
