It might be a while before soccer fans see Alexander Isak take to the field again, because he reportedly has no intention of ever playing for Newcastle United again — even if he remains at the club beyond the closure of the transfer window.

Isak wants to join Liverpool after reportedly making it clear to Eddie Howe before the end of the 2024-25 season that he was keen to move on from St.

James' Park in the summer.

But The Athletic says that, even if he doesn't get his move, Isak has no desire to play for Newcastle ever again and considers his career at the club to be over.

The suggestion is that he told Newcastle last summer that the 2024-25 season would be his last with the club.

Isak is said to have communicated that after being informed that he would not be handed a new contract 12 months ago, as the North East club battled to comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules.

Some Newcastle figures are said to deny that Isak ever told the club that he planned to leave in 2025, and believe that he had indicated a willingness to sign a new contract.

Isak reportedly informed Eddie Howe of his desire to leave Newcastle two weeks before the end of the Premier League season, and reiterated his stance in a phone call with the Magpies boss after the final game of the campaign.

Isak's attitude has drawn criticism from some pundits in recent days, with former Newcastle boss Alan Pardew accusing te 25-year-old of handling the situation poorly.

Pardew told talkSPORT: "The transfer to me looks like it can't be done because Newcastle are going to dig their heels in now, and I think they are angry.

"His agents and advisors have said to him to throw down the tools after serving that great football club, and he's doing really bad things to hold them to ransom and more or less force a way out."

Meanwhile, Ally McCoist said: "You can't sign a contract with the intention of doing well, throwing the toys out and demanding a move

If you sign a contract then you have to say, 'I'm here for three years, four years and that I'm going to honour that contract.

"You sign it because you're happy with it
