With just five days remaining until the transfer window closes, Alexander Isak remains steadfast in his determination to join Liverpool despite Newcastle’s desperate attempts to repair their fractured relationship with their star striker.

The Swedish international has maintained his unwavering position following Monday evening’s high-level intervention, where Newcastle’s Saudi Arabian hierarchy made a personal visit to his home in a final effort to convince him to abandon his Liverpool dream.

Public Investment Fund delegation members, alongside co-owner Jamie Reuben, met with Isak at his residence, but the striker “reiterated his desire to leave” and made clear he “sees no way back at St James’ Park.

Newcastle’s reluctance to sanction Isak’s departure stems partly from their struggles to secure adequate replacements.

The Magpies have seen multiple bids rejected for striker targets, including a £55 million offer for Wolves’ Jørgen Strand Larsen and £35 million for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.

But Isak is set to make a return to the football pitch soon.

Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has confirmed that Isak has been called up the Sweden squad for the upcoming international break:

“I am very happy that Alexander Isak wants to be in the squad, he is a huge player,” he said.

“The situation he is in is not perfect and he has not trained with the team.”

“But he is a player who can decide matches and he wants to be part of our squad, the World Cup is important for Alexander Isak.”

Sweden’s opening match in their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign is against Slovenia on Friday, September 5.

Isak is expected to feature in some capacity.

By that date, Alexander Isak will find out whether he’ll still a Newcastle player or if he gets his wishes and joins the Merseyside giants.

The transfer window closes on Monday, September 1 at midnight.
