Alexander Isak has been slapped with scathing criticism from British pundits Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ally McCoist after it was revealed that the forward is refusing to represent Newcastle United again.
The Swedish star's uncertain future has become one of the most hotly debated topics in the summer transfer window.
However, with Newcastle failing to secure the signatures of Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, who instead opted for Liverpool and Manchester United respectively, Isak remains a Magpie.
With less than three weeks left in the window, another dramatic twist has unfolded in this summer's most captivating saga.
The Times has since reported that Isak has moved out of his Newcastle residence, with the property now back on the rental market.
The latest chapter in the saga involving the Swedish star has talkSPORT's McCoist and Agbonlahor up in arms, delivering a scathing critique of Isak's conduct, reports the Mirror.
Upon hearing the news that Isak may have played his last match for Newcastle, Agbonlahor expressed his disdain: "Who does he think he is?
McCoist then questioned the wisdom of Liverpool's interest: "If you're Liverpool, is that the kind of person you want to be signing?" Meanwhile, the Aston Villa great empathised with the Newcastle supporters, suggesting that Isak would repeat his actions at Liverpool if Real Madrid came calling in the future.
"Real Madrid want him in two years when he's 27, he'll do the same to you," Agbonlahor claimed.
I get it, you want to go and explore and go for a bigger club but if it doesn't suit the club, shut up.
"Get your boots on, big season for Newcastle [who] want to start the season well [at] Villa away, and now you're adamant you don't want to play?"
As Newcastle travel to Aston Villa for their Premier League opener on Saturday, it's unlikely that Isak will make an appearance, with Liverpool still reportedly keen on signing the striker
It's understood that he informed Eddie Howe last season of his intention to depart the club after being told he wouldn't be given a new contract.
Time is running out for Howe's team to bolster their attacking options, potentially opening the door for Isak to make a switch to Arne Slot's side.
Porto's Samu Omorodion and Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson are said to be liked by Newcastle
