The club that launched Alexander Isak's career is set for a timely financial boost following the striker's blockbuster move to Liverpool.

After a summer-long transfer saga, the Reds completed the signing of the Sweden international after striking a £125million deal with Newcastle United, who had previously insisted their star forward was not for sale.

Isak has signed a six-year contract and will wear the No.

While the transfer is clearly great news for Liverpool, some of his former clubs will also benefit from the British record deal, including AIK Stockholm, where Isak started out before leaving for Borussia Dortmund at the age of 17.

Despite Isak playing for Real Sociedad and Newcastle since then, AIK were still entitled to a two per cent solidarity payment for their role in his development.

Soderberg said per Sportbladet: “What it means for AIK is that we have a guy from our own youth football who has just broken the all-time transfer record and represents one of the world's biggest clubs.

“That is the most important payment for AIK tonight.

The fact that we also receive solidarity compensation for the transfer is secondary in this context.”

Meanwhile, Sociedad were entitled to 10 per cent of anything above £60.5m, plus two per cent via FIFA's Solidarity Programme, 0.5 per cent for every season he played for the Spanish side.

Isak joined Sociedad in 2019 from Borussia Dortmund, spending three years in San Sebastian before signing for Newcastle in 2022.

I’m looking forward to seeing my team-mates and the fans, and getting back out there.”

Isak had been absent from the Newcastle squad since before their pre-season tour of Asia and had accused the Magpies of breaking a commitment that he could leave if a suitable offer came in from a big club.

Newcastle, for whom he scored 54 times in 86 Premier League appearances, issued a notably terse statement in which they confirmed Isak’s departure for “a significant British record transfer fee.”

Despite Marc Guehi’s move from Crystal Palace falling through at the last minute, Isak’s arrival capped an extraordinary transfer window for the Premier League champions.
