Alexander Isak will sign a six-year deal when his Liverpool move is completed after Newcastle finally decided to accept £125million from the Reds - ending the summer-long saga.

Isak made it clear he wanted to leave St James' Park weeks ago and time was running out for him to secure his move away, but the Premier League champions have now come to the party late in the window with their second offer being reluctantly accepted.

They had seen an opening bid of £110m turned down, but the Magpies made it clear they would not accept anything less than a British-record fee if they were to allow him to leave.

Liverpool had already spent a record £116m to sign Florian Wirtz this summer, but have again come up with huge sums.

Their investment and belief in Isak is underlined by the length of the deal they intend to give the Swede, who at 25 still has his peak years ahead of him.

He is now poised to lead the line at Anfield for years to come.

Isak's signing is particularly well-timed given the age profile of Mohamed Salah.

He has just signed a new deal, but has turned 33 this summer.

Arne Slot will have spent a staggering £416m, before add-ons, this summer.

However Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have both moved on to pastures new whilst there was also the tragic death of Diogo Jota.

Isak has had to push hard to secure his Newcastle exit and, despite his frustration being particularly evident, the club have said that "no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer" despite the player accusing them of broken promises.

The Swede's impending exit has been softened by Newcastle managing to sign Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart last week for a club-record fee.
