There is reported frustration at Newcastle amid Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak this summer.
Newcastle are in a strong negotiating position though, with Isak under contract for three more years, and the club are able to offer Champions League football to compete with their rivals.

On Wednesday evening, reports claimed that Liverpool are willing to shatter their club record once again, days after securing a potential £116million deal for Wirtz.
Isak would become the new British record transfer, and Liverpool have indicated that they are willing to spend big if the Swedish forward becomes available.
However, The Telegraph report that nothing is imminent between Liverpool and Newcastle.
They have even pointed towards the £200m fee Paris Saint-Germain paid to sign Neymar from Barcelona in 2017, which still stands as a world record.
A move likely would only be instigated if Liverpool bid a huge sum or Isak agitated for a change in scenery himself.
However, he has not shown any desire to do so and is settled at St James’ Park.
That has not stopped a growing frustration on Tyneside, however, but at their own transfer dealings.
Eddie Howe called for the club to be decisive and act fast in the market, as Liverpool have, but so far there has not been a single significant senior incoming.

Enquiries have been made for Brighton’s Joao Pedro and Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga after missing out on Liam Delap and Bryan Mbeumo, with another target in Marc Guehi is more likely to join Liverpool than Newcastle.
There will be lingering fears surrounding Isak if he does not sign a contract extension that is planned to be offered later in the summer.
In 12 months’ time he will have just two years left on his deal and if Isak is not willing to commit his long-term future to the club, Newcastle may start to think about maximising the profit they can receive from their leading man.
